Kicking off the Top 10 is Texas titan Coco Lectric, one of the most gracious, intelligent and hard working women I know.  Her vivacity and megawatt smile can light up any room, and her achievements and approach to life are inspirational.

In 2013, Coco performed at the New York Burlesque Festival, the Las Vegas Burlesque Festival, the San Antonio Burlesque Festival, the Ohio Burlesque Festival and the Texas Burlesque Festival, as well as the Hubba Hubba Revue in San Francisco, and Kitten De Ville’s Dixie Evans Week Benefit, The All Stars of Tease: A Burlesque Extravaganza!, in Los Angeles. Her troupe, The Jigglewatts, went on tour, she created a beautiful tribute to burlesque legend Wild Cherry, and she somehow found time to compete for Reigning Queen at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend (read her pre-BHoF interview here).

At No. 9 this year is Jo ‘Boobs’ Weldon, Headmistress of the New York School of Burlesque, Vice President of BurlyCon, and one of the most gifted instructors I could possibly recommend. Every subtle gesture and sensual movement is described and explained; every detail of performance has a significance and effect. I’m sure many of you have her fantastic Burlesque Handbook and possibly one of her instructional videos. I’m told that this is the world’s best selling burlesque ‘how to’ DVD and iPhone app – so snap one up if you’re starting out!

In 2013, Jo appeared at the Great Canadian Girlesque Expo, in Jonny Porkpie’s Dead Sexy at Times Scare, at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret in Denver, and in Bushwick Burlesque and the Slipper Room in New York.  She also created an incredible tribute to Sparkly Devil at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend, posed as Velvet Ice for the Burlesque Legends Tribute Calendar, penned etiquette columns for Pincurl Magazine and produced a new DVD, Striptease for Brides.  On 21st Century Burlesque Magazine I published some of Jo’s writing, including the extremely popular ’10 of my Favourite Things About Tassel Twirling’  and her interview with Dixie Evans.

Held in high respect and great affection by the global community, and one of the great burlesque intellectuals of our time, Jo stays firmly in your TOP 10.

Hold onto your hearts and loins – it’s Ray Gunn, Jett Adore and Bazuka Joe, the sensational Stage Door Johnnies, in at No. 8 for a second year.   These three succulent sex biscuits continue to conquer all before them, and 2013 was another highly successful year.

In 2013, their appearances included the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, the Colorado Burlesque Festival, the Show Me Burlesque Festival and the New Zealand Burlesque Festival, but the real highlight for many of us was their triumphant contribution to the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend 2013.  Ray was awarded ‘Best Boylesque’, Jett performed a stunning ‘Butterfly’ number which has been widely discussed and admired, as well as a farewell duet with his ‘Best Duo 2012’ partner Frenchie Kiss (read their Partnerships Series interview here),  and Joe performed a highly entertaining duet with Kami Oh! and was an instrumental creative force in putting together the outstanding finale of the weekend – an all-star burlesque group number to end all group numbers – starring the Johnnies alongside a host of fellow burlesque stars. Read all about their incredible BHoF Weekend and see photos here!

Dita Von Teese, the most high-profile burlesque performer in the world, is at No. 7 this year and continues to be a poised, visible and active ambassador for the art form.

As well as touring the US with Strip Strip Hooray! and its diverse, sparkling cast of characters (including Dirty Martini, Catherine D’Lish, Perle Noire, Selene Luna and Monsieur Romeo), Dita appeared in Melbourne, Ukraine, Italy, Ibiza, Cannes, Brazil, the Bahamas, Sydney, Germany, and made a surprise appearance at The Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend in Las Vegas to present a special award to long-time friend and collaborator Catherine D’Lish.

Offstage, we had the opportunity to sample her latest perfumes, FleurTeese and Erotique, and snap up her lingerie and gorgeous dresses (find out more about all of her products here).  She also posed in Michael Schmidt’s incredible 3D dress, and featured in Monarchy single Disintegration.
