2. Dirty Martini
She’s had an incredible run at the top of this poll from 2009 (when the poll began) to 2012, and 2013 was another non-stop tour of awesome for the godlike burlesque icon Dirty Martini.
Dirty’s appearances in 2013 included the Helsinki Burlesque Festival, the Texas Burlesque Festival, the Milan Burlesque Awards, the spectacular Sublime Boudoir event in London, Jonny Porkpie’s Pretencion in Los Angeles, touring with Dita Von Teese and cast in Strip Strip Hooray! and gallivanting across France with Cabaret New Burlesque. She also supported benefits for burlesque legends Jean Idelle and the late Dixie Evans. She described the Dixie Evans memorial service for 21st Century Burlesque Magazine, and you can read it here. Dirty appeared on screen this year in Beth B’s acclaimed documentary EXPOSED: Beyond Burlesque, alongside New York peers Miss Rose Wood, World Famous *BOB*, Julie Atlas Muz, Tigger!, Bunny Love, Bambi the Mermaid, and UK performer Mat Fraser.
Dirty’s achievements and contributions to burlesque are awe-inspiring and touch burlesque fans across the world. It’s an honour and a joy to call her a friend and feel the warmth of her generosity and support. Bring on 2014.
