Lola van Ella
At No. 9 it’s Lola Van Ella – who has stayed exactly where she was last year. You are consistent in your affections!
Striptease and song is so often a marriage that doesn’t quite work. So few performers can do both to a high standard, and at the same time. But Lola is an example of how well it can be done.
Lola is so expressive – It’s the little gestures, winks, raising of the eyebrows and knowing smiles that make her performances special. Some find it difficult to be both funny and sexy – or silly and seductive, but Lola achieves a perfect balance. And despite her light and fluffy demeanour, she retains control and authority at all times. You are in the hands of a sunny, charming professional, and you can just sit back and enjoy it.
Lola has proved that she doesn’t always have to sing to stand out in a crowd of other stripteasers. She is equally as engaging when she lets the strip do all the talking, as she did at Bustout Burlesque during 2010. And when she teams up with the very talented Sammich the Tramp (who you voted in for the first time at No. 26), pure, poignant magic happens…
A highlight of 2010 was Lola’s performance at The New Orleans Burlesque Festival ‘Queen of Burlesque’ competition, for which she was awarded ‘First Runner Up’. You can read her festival diary here… Vocal ability, striptease, grace and agility combined!
Congratulations Lola – we are HUGE fans!
