On Monday a bejewelled, flamboyant horde of stars from the London cabaret scene invaded the luxurious Cafe de Paris for a night of awards, roasts, song and striptease.
Miss Polly Rae saw off fellow shortlisted nominees The Folly Mixtures and BRIEFS to win ‘Best Burlesque’. For some time now she has set a excellent example as a host, producer and curator of burlesque rather than disrobing herself, but considering her years of contribution and creativity it is a much deserved honour.
Other burlesque highlights on the night included an upbeat, feel-good routine from The Folly Mixtures to open the show, and an outstanding performance from former-Folly-turned-sensational-soloist Bettsie Bon Bon, who sold her routine, usually seen in Cafe de Paris’ Friday night production Cabaret Des Distractions, with absolute commitment and devastating sexual charisma. She is a first rate, feline thrill ride from start to finish and I can’t wait to see how high she climbs in the future.
In other categories, the much loved Lilly Snatchdragon sashayed away with ‘Best Newcomer’, and Dusty Limits added yet another ‘Best Host’ award to his collection. Holestar took out ‘Best Drag Act’ and Dott Cotton, who clowned around with Kitty Bang Bang in Boom and Bang Circus last year, won the ‘Audience Award’.
