I could attempt to recall this illegally sensuous event with some serious journalism, but the fantastic photos just say it all, and more!
I had no idea when we arrived (an hour and a half) early, just how many people might turn up for the 1st Annual Barecats Invitational Bowling Tournament; described as an ‘equal parts dance/dress-up party and actual tournament play’. Neither did I accurately anticipate just how seriously this tournament would be taken – at least in terms of immaculately co-ordinated team costume!
I know it’s so awful to say this – but you really HAD to be there to understand just how silly, funny, sexy and surreal this tournament was…
Fans, enthusiasts and newcomers could find themselves lane to lane with some of the most prolific burlesque legends in the world – vintage and current. That was the real magic of it – you could find yourself reaching for the same ball as Dirty Martini, or queuing up at the bar with Michelle L’Amour! The guy who asks you for a quick photo could be Don Spiro! And several vintage legends, including the irrepressible Candy Caramello, were cheering the teams on, and Viva La Fever stepped up to compete with the delicious Devilettes.
Okay, enough said – here are my favourite images from the evening – enjoy!
