The 21CB festival and show diaries are some of the most popular features on the site, and when Minnie Tonka asked if I would be interested in publishing weekly diaries from the new Dangerous Curves Ahead tour, which starts today, I thought it was a fantastic idea! I am sure you are all familiar with the New York veterans in this troupe; they are all long standing and super talented performers, and I can’t wait to read about their adventures! Minnie has kicked off the tour with a little intoduction to the world of DCA. Enjoy, and stay tuned… H-M x
On January 3rd, 2010, five NYC burlesque friends got together in Brooklyn over soup and several bottles of red wine to discuss driving to Las Vegas for the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend. It turned into an unforgettable evening of drunken improv burlesque dance routines, a four week, twenty-two city burlesque tour plan, and an unwanted visit by the NYPD! On that glorious and fateful night, ‘Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque on the Go-Go’ was born!
Since 2010, Dangerous Curves Ahead, made up of Brooklyn-based burlesque luminaries, Anita Cookie, Clams Casino, Darlinda Just Darlinda, GiGi La Femme, and Minnie Tonka, have completed four national tours, taking them to over sixty cities including Los Angeles, Des Moines, Anchorage, Denver, Eugene, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Tulsa, and Atlanta. Dangerous Curves Ahead pack houses across the country and receive oodles of critical acclaim: The Nashville Scene said, “It’s a veritable aureole speedwagon as the Outer Boroughs’ most buxom babes go from zero to 38D on their road trip across America!” and the Phoenix New Times called the show, “An excellent night of twirling tassels and bawdy jokes.“
This month, Dangerous Curves Ahead, the USA’s premier national touring burlesque troupe, are hitting the road with the top down and their tassels twirling for their Spring Tour 2012! The ladies, driving cross-country in a cramped minivan, are bringing their killer moves, sexy glam and hilarious hijinks on a nineteen city tour, performing in unexpected cities, including Missoula, Boise, and Wichita.
For the next three weeks, 21st Century Burlesque will offer the insider scoop on their road trip shenanigans! So stay tuned for tour adventure stories by the Dangerous Curves!
