Competing for the Crown: LouLou D’vil (BHoF 2013)

LouLou D’vil is the first of the Reigning Queen competitors to answer my annual pre-pageant Q&A in 2013, and she will take to the stage in a matter of weeks at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend 2013. I put something lighthearted and fun together this year, and requested some extra ‘media’ from each contender.

When I’m on stage, I feel… strong and sexy, and nothing else matters than the music and how it makes me move.

When I’m on stage, I want the audience to feel… chills on their backs. I want to make them howl spontaneously and feel joy.

BHoF is special and important to me because… that’s one way to show your support to legends and to the history of burlesque. It is great way to meet new people and friends. For me, the people in burlesque are like a second family and BHoF unites us together every year.

I chose the act I am competing with because… It’s one of my favourite acts. I have been doing it for some time but it still gives me so much enjoyment!

If I am crowned Queen… I’ll go absolutely wild and bump’n’grind the whole night!

If I could speak to myself when I was a new performer starting out, I would say/tell myself… The world is full of adventures and you can create the greatest one yourself by believing strongly about you and your abilities.

Something that few people know about me is… I love telling dirty jokes and make people laugh!

I am happiest when… I’m on stage with a live band and we are able to create something magical together.

My greatest strength is… that I never give up and I’m willing to work hard.

My biggest vice is… that I’m very impatient

My greatest fear is… that I’ll be injured and will never dance again. It would break my heart.

If I could spend a day with any woman in history, past or present, it would have to be… Bettie Page because I would love to see what she really was like. It would be interesting to hear all the stories!

I if could have a superhero power, it would be… flying. That way I could fly to see my friends all over the world easily and much faster!

The best piece of advice I have ever been given is… “Try to understand all kinds of people and find good in everything.”  If something is meant to happen, it will happen.

If I could only watch one movie, hear one song and read one book for the rest of my life, they would be… Beneath the Valley of Ultra-Vixens, Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

The key to show-stopping striptease is… music, and how you interpret it.

My hopes for the future of burlesque are… that people keep feeling passionate about burlesque and performers won’t stop creating innovative and touching acts without forgetting the roots of burlesque.
